Yep.. surprise, surprise.. it's all about the eclipse.. and me
Plans were foiled for my trip to the Nashville area to see the total eclipse. Long story.. but the 12 hour drive was not one I was looking forward to anyway.
I knew where I live that the forecast was looking overcast or rainy. Through the power of my smartphone weather app I kept looking (was on a mission) at the hourly forecast from towns within a 90 minute drive. The closest town with a clear sky was just over an hour away and I had been out there camping many times years ago.. and to some fabric outlet (but I digress). Beautiful country drive.. made SO much easier with a GPS.
I drove into the parking lot of this state park overlooking a manmade lake with some people out in kayaks. A couple of families at picnic tables. I came armed with an extra pair of glasses which I hoped to swap to get someone to fold up my folding chair. (That sounds crazy but I cannot get it to close. Maybe I can take a course from Cabellas where the chair came from!) As soon as I looked up at the sun with those glasses I was AMAZED. I walked by some man that was trying to look through the darkened window of his pick up. He appreciated the glasses and it was nice to not have to see it alone. On my drive home I got some pictures at a sunflower pasture like everyone else has done. I looked up and saw the last few seconds of the eclipse. Felt like it was meant to be.

Too cool! Good for you taking off to go see it! Once in a lifetime event! Pretty pic! Wish you'd got a pic of the lake! Sounds like a nice park. 👍

Glad your determination paid off!! Nashville was under cloud cover anyway... according to the televised report from there.

Over here we would have got 10% of it but cloud stop us all seeing anything. I did get at part in 1999 but that seems a lifetime ago.

I am glad you saw it
