Saying Hello

Tuesday, June 20, 2017

Whew. I took a couple months away from Spark. Can't say I super missed it, but I'm not ready to shut it down yet just in case. I have been tracking my food and steps with the LoseIt! app. I think I'd get more out of it if I paid the money for it, which I don't really want to do, so I may be giving Spark another try again - this time with adblockers I think ; )

I do have so many updates though!

It has almost been a year since I started my "new" job. I just attended my boss's wedding on Saturday with most of my team. I can't tell you how great it feels to work somewhere where this is possible! There are frustrating days like in every job, but I have been so much happier professionally than I have been in a while. I hope it continues!

My husband and I have recently built a home gym. We talked about joining one and realized we'd probably never drive there and would waste all that money. We also realized we had a whole room in the basement that we never use and was just a holding space for junk. You guessed it! We did some cleaning and research and purchased special flooring, an elliptical, a bench, weights, and more and now the gym is in our home. There is really no excuse not to work out - it is all RIGHT HERE and can be used rain or shine! No other people, no germs. Last night I did a tougher program on the elliptical than I have done in years and it felt GOOD.

A few updates on the health front...

I am back at Chiro/PT again. I wish I could say it was helping but it is slow progress. Not only is my neck still bad, but I found out my L4 & L5 vertebrae were being compressed. Fun stuff. She also said I'd had some of the worst inflammation she'd ever seen, which brings me to...

I just did a ton of testing and after years of feeling bad I just found out that I am HIGHLY lactose intolerant. Three doctors told me maybe I was gluten intolerant, and no one had ever tested me for lactose until now - and turns out I am super intolerant! I am cutting all dairy and seriously considering the FODMAP diet as suggested by my doctor. She said she bets I will not only feel better but see my skin clear, inflammation lower, weight drop, etc. Fingers crossed! I am SO glad to finally have an answer!!!!

Hmmm what else? I became an aunt for the first time? I get to work from home one day a week now? Super jazzed all the farm stands are open again? Also I am going to see U2 tonight for my belated 30th birthday present. Woo hoo!

I guess that is my update! Also, Bea is doing great and we still love her very much!

Congrats on still loving the job and having all those fun updates! Sorry about the lactose intolerance - you might be able to tolerate goat or sheep milk, or just give up and go with soy and almond milk products. At least stuff is now available, right?

Anything that can be done for your back? Exercises to avoid, or exercises to strengthen the muscles that support those vertabrae? (My back has major problems as well. But I also just got a new knee - so I'm pretty focused on the fact that what we do or don't do can affect each little tiny part of us.)

can you have fermented milk products like kefir or yoghurt where the lactose has been consumed?
    Cheers

    hi Bea!!!

I'm super glad to hear from you. Sounds like life is going well except for the lactose but at least now you know what the issue really is.

What a cute pup! My Polo keeps me honest. He has to go out and won't do his business without a decent walk. I told myself I'm walking the dog instead of exercising. Exercising has negative connotations to me so I walk the dog.

I'm glad you didn't stay away from spark people. There's a lot of good information and excellent tracking ... and the best part, encouragement from fellow Sparkers.
