Saturday, July 08th, Free Guided Walking Tour of Historic Escondido

Saturday, June 10, 2017

Escondido has Free Guided Walking Tours of Historic Escondido the 2nd Saturday of each month. They met at the corner of Broadway and Grand Ave in front of Draper's and Damon's. It is about a 60 - 90 minute walking tour, so wear comfortable shoes if you ever go. They have a few routes that they take to alternate the walks and what you will see. If you want to go, then try to be at Draper's and Damon's about 15 mins before 10 am. As they start promptly at 10 AM. And they make you sign in first before they start the tour, as a waiver, and so they have a record of whom is on the tour. I will probably do it each month if I don't have to work on that day, until the start of next year. Then I might be too busy to do them until May or June again. I live on 7th Ave, so I will just walk up to Damon's a head of time each month. I went on two of the tours in 2015, and one today. Today’s was “The Downtown Escondido Tour”. That took us along Grand Ave. To learn all about the commercial businesses and buildings that contributed to the start and growth of Escondido. The tours are really fun and interesting.

The next one will be Saturday, July 08th. This one will be “The Old Escondido West Tour”. That goes west of Broadway. And will highlight a variety of homes in the Old Escondido Historic District.

If you can’t make any of the Saturday Tours, they have free Mobile App for self-guided tours. Available on all Apple & Android Devices. Just go to the App Store and search for “Explore Escondido” and download it.

Thanks, I walked up there, but they cancelled the tour today because of the heat. They said to try again next month if it is cooler. They didn't want anyone to get heat stroke. So I walked back home, still getting a good walk in going up and back.

We are supposed to be warmer this Saturday, July 8th, than on last month's walk.
Dress in comfortable clothes for the weather.
And you might want to bring a bottle or some sort of small container of water with you.
I brought a bottle of water with me last time and didn't need it.
But we might just want one this time.
Especially for me, I am going to walk from my house about a mile to the start place.
And then we will walk for about 60-90 mins on the tour.
And then I will walk back home afterwards.
Looking forward to seeing whom ever joins me on the tour.

Thanks, Saturday I did my third walking tour of Escondido. There was 4 ladies counting the guide for this walking tour. I think when I did it the two times in 2015 that there was probably about a dozen or so of us. They were all a lot of fun. If I don't have to work Saturday, July 8th, I will do the next one. I posted about the walks in here, and also in my profile in My Fitness Pal, and also in Facebook on a group page I belong to for ladies in Escondido that are 50 +. One of the ladies that showed up Saturday saw my posting on Facebook and decided to join me at the last minute. We had never met before, and I didn't even see her response to my post because she responded after I had already left for the walk. The other lady has been in Escondido for about 12 yrs. I think she might have actually been on at least one of the walks I did in 2015? At least she looked familiar, and looked like someone in some of the photographs I had just looked at recently from then. She said she lives several blocks to my south and walks all over Escondido all the time. So I will have to keep my eyes out for her when I am out and about. And check those old photos again. The lady from FB is going to try to met up with me again and some ladies from the Escondido group for some events that some of the ladies from that group have already scheduled. They have a breakfast gathering this Thursday close to my house that I will go to if I don't have to work then. It will be at a French Bakery Restaurant on Grand Ave. It was on the Walking Tour Saturday. I had actually been to that restaurant once before with the ladies from Facebook, probably a couple of years ago.
