My name is Tim Cogdill, I live in Olathe, KS, I'm 41 and weigh 638lbs, down from 800lbs on January 1st. I have a mass (known as a pannus) on my lower body that weighs 100-200lbs. I have been bed bound since entering the hospital. I am looking for a surgeon to remove the pannus while I work to lose weight and work with physical therapy to try and walk. I can be reached at persistenttim@gmail.com or www.facebook.com/cogdill

The last three days we've tried to stand, a tiny bit of success as in I got about a 1/4 inch off a chair. All three ended with me in lots of pain and crying. But I'm going to keep falling until I stop. The biggest impediment is the pannus but so far no one will remove it. I worry this hospital will get frustrated I'm here for so long and ship to my moms still needing more help than anticipated but we will cross that bridge when we get there. Thank you all so much for your support, love, prayers and help these last two months. And another thank you who've donated to the Go Fund Me set up by my folks to help me rehab when I get home. I'll put a link for anyone else who wants to share it. I promise you I wouldn't allow them to do this if it weren't necessary. I love all you guys! www.gofundme.com/800lbs

Just don't give up, Tim! Keep working as much as you can to use any muscles possible while you are bed ridden. You can still work your arms and might be able to lift your legs and inch or two and hold it for a few counts. If you can do anything at all, it will be better than nothing. Thanks for the updates.

I'm worried about how you've been falling a lot. Is there any way that you can wear protective gear, such as a helmet, elbow pads, and knee pads? It would set you back if you broke something. Also, is there any way that they can hold you up while you are trying to stand? If there's a hoist in the room, could it be used to give you some support, like with something wrapped under your arms and behind your back, if they used it like a pulley? That's probably not covered under their insurance, though. It's too bad you can't practice on a mat like they probably have in their physical therapy room. You might see if they can get you a helmet.

I know the doctor was saying how impossibly difficult it would be for you to get healthy, but I think he's not taking into account how much weight you've lost in the last month alone. Your body's metabolism is on fire, it's doing it's job! A lot of people at your weight have diabetes, and you don't. You have that in your favor, it will help you lose more weight than someone with diabetes would, you will lose faster. Also, because you don't have diabetes, your skin may heal once you are able to use the toilet on your own. It may take a while, but chances are if given enough time, it will start to heal. The fact that it's been bleeding at all, means that the blood is flowing to that area. And you need good circulation to heal, so you might do that. I know it wasn't in this blog, but I keep thinking about what that doctor said. I just want to let you know that you can't give in to that kind of thinking! You have to believe it's all worth it. Even if you are in bed, as long as you are on a low calorie diet, and you are doing what exercises that you can, that's progress. That's you getting better. You've got to believe in yourself, even when no one else will.
