What A Day...

Saturday, March 11, 2017

Yesterday was NOT the day I had "planned". It started at 5:30am with my daughter yelling at me because I wouldn't let her go to her friends house without taking care of her responsibilities first (this has been an on going issue). Then my partner started vomiting and spent the day in bed. I went to the MVA to renew my license before it expired. I sat with my book for maybe twenty minutes and then my number was called. I was going through the motions, answering the questions and then the lady said, "Oh, your name was selected to be checked. You will have to wait for the check to be completed at the HQ before we can continue - this should take only ten minutes". I took a seat on a bench where I could keep eye contact with this woman. I watched people come in, wait, get called, complete their process and leave -- all while I still sat there. Now, I have had only ONE speeding ticket in my life and that was when I was 16 - so I KNOW there is nothing on my record. After 45 minutes I started getting really, really, really angry. I think it was seeing people come and go as I just sat there - then watching the MVA workers joking around, talking, laughing -- all knowing that my daughter was coming home from school and I should be there to help her with her chores. My blood pressure was through the roof and all of my deep breathing could not get it to calm down -- they called the manager over to talk to me "there's nothing we can do - it is all at corporate - we will keep you posted", finally the check was completed - 1 hour 45 minutes later I could go home. I spent the whole day running errand, partner continued to vomit, cold/windy weather came in so I had to take care of the horses, had to get partner to urgent care before they closed (diagnosed with the Flu), then pick up daughter, ate dinner standing up in the kitchen, finally went to bed at 11:15.

I kept telling myself - I DID get to exercise for a whole hour first thing in the morning, daughter and I worked out the disagreement we were having in the morning and seem to be communicating well again, I DID get my license renewed before the expiration date, I made it to my new library - got my card connected with the new library system - check out some books - replenished the groceries. And I did it all without having a drink of alcohol!!!! If I can get through this day - I can conquer ANY day!!!

I'm so glad you could focus on all the good things that you did AND all without a drink. Those government offices are such a pain. Good job, Anne. You should be proud of yourself.
