Well, after the specialist dr. visit I've been doing finger sticks 4x/day and working on tweaking my diet. After meal blood sugars are almost always good, but the a.m. fasting #s have been tricky. Think I may have finally gotten it down. Not sure if it is my chicken breast & beans for a before bed snack (weird, but it's working), or my vinegar based salad dressing, but I'm keeping them both just in case. Of course they tell me it will get harder as I get closer to my due date and hormones keep increasing, so fingers crossed. Part of this means logging/planning my meals, so I have recorded everything I've eaten/drunk for 11 straight days. And no treats... even the valentines and birthday treats that came home Feb. 14. It's amazing how much self control you can find when you get threatened with twice weekly dr. appts, and the first one cost $600 AFTER insurance. I did have a piece of my 86% dark chocolate with breakfast last week when I just couldn't take it anymore. I've learned my #s are pretty forgiving for breakfast/lunch so far, so loading up on fruit helps. Sooo many more fruits & veggies than I'm used to. And actually planning ahead is hard to get used to. I'm working into it though. At least one or two meals ahead, planning what and when I'll eat. Lately I've been forcing myself to think about the next DAY... silly I know for that to be such a struggle, but I'm so used to "time for dinner, what do we fix?" That doesn't exactly work with the new dr rules. I honestly don't know how much of this will stick/continue after I have the baby and don't HAVE to do it, but so far I think I can at least deal with it for the next 8-9wks. After that, we'll see.
