Countdown to 48 - Day 15

It occurs to me that it looks like I am counting down to my 48th birthday, I wish! I have an appointment with an orthopedist on March 8, and the day I made that appointment was 48 days before, so I decided that I would do the best I could to make those 48 days count in trying to get myself in the best possible place physically, since I expect the conversation to revolve around the need for a hip replacement. Let's face it, that would be hard enough, never mind with a lot of extra weight and severely curtailed mobility. So that is what I've been working on.

I had lofty goals when this started, but I have discovered that putting such high hopes on this kind of thing only tends to make me feel like I'm digging a hole in beach sand and not getting nearly close enough to my overarching goals. So I've dialed it down a bit, and feel like I can say I'm meeting my lower, but far more reachable goals..

I have been focusing on only eating at meal time and my planned snacks. I tend to allow myself to eat as much as I feel I need to, especially at dinner. So though my portions might be a little larger at dinner than they should be, I still think an extra piece of bread or serving of protein or starch is better than eating junk later, and I'm less inclined to even start thinking about eating after dinner because I'm full. Plus, I have been taking my own advice from a few blogs ago and I am practicing the fine art of avoidance, either by heading upstairs to bed after clearing up dinner and getting whatever I have to get done accomplished, or just removing myself from where the food is if I am out. These strategies seem to be working, so I'm sticking with them and not even thinking of the next step,

So, with 33 days left to the magic 48th day, I'd say there has been progress. And that is enough.
