60 and Still Going Strong
Friday, October 21, 2016
Yesterday was my 60th (gulp) birthday. It took me months of positive self talk to embrace that number, which I now have. Not much a person can do about birthdays, so we might as well make the best of what we're given.
That being said, my family and friends sure made it easy to do so. I spent Saturday at a birthday celebration with friends at a local winery. We had a beautiful day outdoors with a great band. I even danced with a circle of my friends! Sunday, my family surrounded me at Trail Smokehouse with a spectacular view of the Missouri River valley, delicious pulled pork, and music on their patio. Another spectacular day. Monday, a friend took me to lunch on the patio of Magpie Cafe in St. Charles, MO. Such fun! On my actual birthday, I had a great strength training workout with 2 friends, my niece, Kara helped me hook up my wireless printer and we had lunch together at Buffalo Wild Wings (free birthday snack pack of wings and a salad~so I was being aware of my calorie input), and my brother, Dale and SIL, Dee met me for a birthday dinner at a local sports bar/restaurant. Whew! How's that for celebrating a milestone birthday!
As I told a friend, I am feeling the love more than my arthritic knees on this birthday! LOL (thanks to my workouts to keep flexible and strengthening the muscles in my thighs to help alleviate a bit of the knee stress).
On tope of all of that, I hadn't weighed for at least a month since my scale was out of commission. I got that taken care of and weighed yesterday ~ sort of a new baseline. Guess who was down 8 pound? That would be this 60-year old, loving-life gal!
As my Spark birthday wish, a quote by Ernest Meyers, reminded me, "Don't just count your years. Make your years count."
Forever forward, no excuses,
