800 calorie blood sugar diet - Checking in

Thursday, August 18, 2016

Can I be clear here, I am not recommending this diet I am just trying it and reporting on how I get on. My doctor is fully in agreement with me doing this as my 3 monthly results were excellent. I will also monitor myself regularly. If you want to follow such a strict diet you should talk to your doctor. Also my husband is going to keep a close eye on me for any signs of hypo. If you want to know more detail please read my blog '800 calorie blood sugar diet - Day 1' where I go into a bit of detail about it. The diet plan is for 8 weeks.

Start blood glucose - 190 (10.5) Start weight - 12 st 6.5 lbs or 79.2 kg Insulin 37 units

End of week 7 plus 2 days

Now weigh - not declaring a weight until Tuesday (see below)
Official HBA1c 6.6 (was 8.1)
Cholesterol down to 3.7 from 4.1
Triglycerides down to 1.21 from 1.50
Insulin 26 units

After the end of week 6 my house became full of visitors. I have cooked for them and made them meals they would enjoy whilst sticking to my own regime. We have been out for meals and now we have been away for 3 days to a French theme park. Because of this I have not been near a set of scales and expect to have put on around 1 to 2 lbs.

I have managed to stick to the low carb principle and even found a chick pea salad in a fast food outlet at the theme park. Also managed to tailor my meals in the hotel restaurant so I did not have anything with potatoes, chips or rice/pasta. I have allowed myself a few glasses of wine but I have been swimming daily and yesterday must have walked for 3 or 4 hours.

Today I finally gave in (yes I have to be honest or there is no point doing this). After an early start and a long a tiring drive back home I shoved a couple of pizzas in the oven for my hubby and 2 grandsons and made myself a ham salad. Trouble was it was typical of one of my old salad meals, drab and uninteresting with not much flavour. I just couldn't resist it and I had a slice of pizza. I don't know exactly what sort it was as it just tasted like eating cardboard with cheese and tomato mush. So, no I didn't enjoy it and, no, I won't be doing it again.

Tomorrow I will head out for the supermarket and get myself some good food stocks and stick to the carbs and the calories ready for my weigh in on Tuesday. Hopefully, I won't have done too much damage.

In all of this I have managed to keep my blood glucose around 100 (5.5) which I am very happy about as this is more about my health than my weight.

Keep on keeping on - onward and downwards.

Hi Crafty, it was empty fridge syndrome. I made a boring lettuce, tomato and cucumber salad with a couple of slices of ham although I made a nice dressing with yogurt lemon juice and fresh mint from the garden. I am so tired and can not be bothered so will be a good girl tomorrow.
I only found the calories difficult after I had eaten more for a couple of days, then found it hard to get back down to 800. I will be fine by tomorrow. Thanks for your support.

Don't forget seasonings change up meals! :) so when it gets tiring use a different seasoning, low carb friendly of course 💖

When I first started low carb I couldn't get past 900kCal per day, so I feel for you. And food DOES taste different! That junk tastes like poo now 😂💖 congrats!
