My healthy living challenge is indeed confusing this time.
Weight Loss has not generally been hard once my brain is in gear - it's been:
* Eat ridiculously low calories
* Drink the weird drink in 1982 every day and try to convince myself it was yummy - NOT
* Eat the pre-packaged controlled food that came to the house - some of it WAS tasty
* Count and eat limited fats
* Learn a healthy food plan and implement exercise
They all worked - I had set a goal and did it each time - time and time again.
I WILL do it again and I'll do it here because this is the best place - where all the pieces come together so well. Where I learned and continue to learn healthy eating and fitness.
BUT!! Yes - there is a BUT. However - relax, I'm not being negative - just battling frustration. There is a new challenge this time and it's a struggle sorting it out.
I'm taking it One Step @ A Time but struggling with which step to take. I'm not quite floundering but close.
Losing has not proven to be the problem yet - I'm losing with healthy eating and exercise. I'm sure I'll get to blog about that another day but here's the current problem.
1) Hypothyroidism - diagnosed almost 2 years ago and I've been learning that there are possible ways to treat it nutritionally
2) Diabetes - Newly diagnosed and I'm committed to not become medicine dependent by reaching and maintaining a Healthy Life Style and Weight, however that means LOW CARBS!!
WHAT?? I Know Low FAT but now it's LOW CARB? My husband does a lot of our cooking - neither of us know how to do this. And have you read the labels? There are Carbs in EVERYTHING!! Well, not everything but it sure seems that way.
So I start watching Carbs and eating well, but then remember some of the things I'd been learning about treating thyroid - Oh My - conflicting choices. Which STEP do I take?
Now with the Food changes AND addition of medications = Digestive Issues - and Nutrition Tracker confirms that:
3) FIBER is WAY TOO LOW.
Again - have you read labels? FIBER is abundant in things that read HIGH CARBS.
One Step @ A TIME??? Which step do I focus on? Increase the Fiber? Increase the Carbs? Don't increase the Fiber and digestive issues means weight gain and desire to eat more. Threat Thyroid? Diabetes? Fiber? Get Fit?
Yep - Nothing I do is going to FIX the problem today or tomorrow - it's a journey - I'm in the best place I can possibly be. I'm eating well, I'm paying attention to my body - my food - my fitness, calories, carbs, fiber etc. I'm exercising a couple times a day. I'm even on meds for both health issues and there is no way I'll be coming off of them for at least 3-6 months. SO, I'll keep working on Balance and learn more about Good and Bad CARBS. I'll learn that good carbs are safer and stop worrying so much. I may even get the Fiber working soon (i hope) UGH - lol. I know I'm not doing anything wrong, or at least not terribly wrong but I have a long way to go before I FIGURE IT OUT.
I'm just going to Move Forward - - One Step @ A Time!!
