Life Curve: TBI

Sunday, July 03, 2016

So I was sitting at a red light waiting for it to change on March 31 when a woman decided to commit suicide by vehicle and crossed two lanes of heavy oncoming traffic to make a left turn.

[I'm the one in the back]

Got hit just in front of the driver door which is probably why I am still alive. The seat belt kept my body in place. Unfortunately it didn't do the same for my brain.

The first five weeks was one long headache. I thought the memory loss would get better but I started a timeline with all the information I could find, which was a good thing because now all I remember is a flash and noise. The thing that bothers me the most actually isn't the headaches which I still get but the memory loss. If I don't write it down instantly I forget it and sometimes when I write it down I can't find where I wrote it. I'm back at work but on summer break right now and maybe some rest will help. It's also hard to deal with the anger because by nature I am not an angry person but it seems as though I get angry over the least little thing.

I know this sounds rambling. Sorry, I don't seem to be very good at organizing my thoughts either.

Lynn, so sorry to hear about this accident!! I hope things improve for you soon, but remember it often takes a while with head injuries. Patience...which often is the hardest thing to practice!! Best wishes!!

Wow - a miracle you survived that! Give yourself some time. You went through something traumatic, and it may take your body some time to process and heal.

So glad you made it out! That looks like a horrible wreck.

It takes a while to heal, maybe over a year. I hope you are working with a medical professional on this.
In the meantime, just keep doing adaptive steps. Writing things down, journaling and making sure you are getting adequate rest.

Be kind to yourself and love your body!

You did great. Dealing with a TBI is very hard please don't be so hard on yourself. As you heal things will get better but it will take time.
