Ode to my Car
Wednesday, June 15, 2016
Oh car, my blue car
You are part of the conspiracy,
And I know it.
You have so many hiding places for
Those Whoppers and M&Ms.
I don't care if they are six months old
You know my weakness.
You lied. Mentor and Tictacs do
Have calories and are stashed in
Every nook and cranny.
Long drives and traffic jams
Are your favorite times to remind
Me that you have food, mindless
Food waiting for my elbow to bend
And my mouth to open.
I can still smell the greasy fries
pulled through your window
At Burgerville, and the shake
I convinced you was healthy because
It was yogurt and fresh berries.
On the open road you once were my friend but now you are a taxi
From the chemo room to home.
Keep the water bottle and the
Notes I wrote to myself on the steering
Make room for carrot sticks and apples or better yet, turn up your
Radio and let me sing with you!
My mouth can open without
My elbow bending.
Turn right at the light.
We're almost home.
