Runnin' away

Thursday, May 26, 2016

I'm at my radiation consult this afternoon. They will mark my chest with four tiny tattoos. I'm more fascinated than nervous about it. I've never had a tattoo before. The ones they put on me are tiny -- the size of freckles -- to guide the radiation technician in positioning me for treatment. Think I'm going to attempt to go jogging tonight. The last time I ran was October of last year. Even if it's from one lamp post to the next, it's something. There's something very freeing about running and I miss it. My surgeon told me on Tuesday in a follow up that I'm cleared to run. Can't wait!

I have 8 of those little tattoos and every time I see them it makes me thankful to be alive. You will come to love yours too! From one survivor to another... you're are in my thoughts!

Do it while you can. After two weeks of radiation for me it was like being hit with a ton of bricks. You don't feel any different at first. I had mild swelling after a couple of days but nothing else. After two weeks woke up to suddenly absolutely no energy. Still went to work every day but had to leave at noon for treatment and home. They'll give you a special cream for the sunburn feeling when that sets in but it's all temporary and well worth the price of life.

Good luck in your treatments and recovery
