Good morning, ladies and gents! It's week 20 post-op from my vertical sleeve gastrectomy and there have been a ton of changes happening around here!
First, let's get to the stats (which is why most people read these anyhow)!
Starting Weight: 460.6 (1/26/15)
Weight Pre-Op: 437.8 (start of pre-op diet)
Last Week: 349.6
This Week: 345.2
Weight Lost This Week: -4.4 pounds (finally broke my stall!)
Weight Lost Since Pre-Op: 92.6
Weight Lost Since Start: 115.4
Total Weight Lost Since Highest: 121.4!
- Getting back into my size 26 jeans and some size 24 dress pants.
- Getting into some XL tops
- Wearing clothes from my Mom! (She had bypass 15 years ago and has done a great job keeping most of it off but lately she's been doing even more work to get back down to her goal weight and she's doing excellent! Which means I get her old clothes! *lol*)
- Fitting in booths and most places I still think I won't fit.
- Walking and keeping up with my friends (usually...still working a bum knee)
- Barely recognizing myself in the mirror!
- Hoping again! WOW!
- Crossing my legs!
- Increased stamina - including getting back to the gym!

So here were my "Next Big Milestone Goals" I listed in my last blog:
- 100 pounds from highest (366.6) DONE!
- 75 pounds since surgery pre-op diet (362.8) DONE!
- 100 pounds from Jan 2015 (360.6) DONE!
- The 350s DONE!
- 125 from highest (341.6) UP NEXT!
- 100 pounds since surgery pre-op diet (337.8) COMING SOON!
- 125 from start in Jan 2015 (335.6) ON THE HORIZON!
- Size 26s DONE!
The first big GOAL weight? 299.9 -- I'm now just over 45 pounds from this goal!! I hope to hit it before we go on vacation to Florida in June!!
What am I eating?
I can eat pretty much whatever I want. I avoid rice and most breads because they just do not agree with me. That being said, I still like the taste of both so I might have a bite here or there. Same with pasta. Nothing is "forbidden" but I know what my body needs and I try to eat that more than anything else. So - lots of protein and veggies, when there's room. Right now my weaknesses are some sweets and chips! Chips are VERY difficult for me right now. It's basically the ONLY food that I can overeat, so I have to be very careful around them...but I crave them all the time (though, I'm pretty sure what I'm really craving is the salt...I have no problem licking Pringles and throwing the chips away! *lol*)! So I will still and always need to watch that. Also, I constantly feel like I "need" something sweet every day. I need to sort that one out before too long too. I AM doing better, though. We've set some serious financial goals, and that includes cooking at home more...so that's always best. (She says, even though this ENTIRE week at work has been and will be lunches OUT, except Friday! Apparently EVERYONE wants us to go out each day for my coworker's birthday and no group wants to share with another! *lol* I will have TONS of leftovers when this week ends!)
My dietary goals are:
Under 1200 calories
Over 55-60g of protein
More than 64 oz of liquid (pref. water)
Take it easy on the carbs and sweets
That's it. And I'm maintaining those guidelines pretty well. Yay me!

The only other issue I'm dealing with right now is my knee. Ever since about 6 weeks out I've been struggling with a LOT of knee pain in my right knee. I've gotten X-rays and an MRI and the basic diagnosis is - it's my osteoarthritis and a bone spur leading to ripping and tearing of cartilage (sp?). Nothing is really seriously wrong...and there's little we can do right now to help the knee other than strengthening it through exercise and losing as much weight as possible. The ortho gave me a cortisone shot and sent me on my way with the simple instruction of "lose as much weight as you can and come back and see me again when it gets unbearable"...so I'm working through it the best I can. Right now there is a lot of tightness and soreness in the back of the knee (this from the past 2 days)...but I just have to remind myself that I'm not actually doing anything to harm my knee and I should just ignore the pain and push through (as per doctor's orders - I asked specifically if I was doing ANYTHING to injure it further or cause more permanent damage and he said no).
So that's where we're at. My next big goal is to lose that last 45ish pounds before vacation. I told Jason (the exercise physiologist at the weight loss center) that my fitness goals are:
- lose as much weight as possible
- protect the knee
- strengthen the knee
- be strong enough to do lots of physical activity on vacation
Yea, a lot is centered on my vacation! *lol* I'm actually REALLY excited! We're going to the Florida Keys for the very first time and my bucket list is LONG!
- Stand-up paddleboarding
- Swimming with dolphins
- Eating a bite of real key lime pie
- Lots of walking and physical activity!!!
I'm SUPER pumped that I finally feel my body is back to where I need it to be to have a great time!
And a precursor to that trip will be a trip to NOLA in May for a convention. I'm planning for that trip:
- A bite of beignet
- A photowalk
- A cemetary tour
- Lots of walking with friends
That will be more a test of my social anxiety and social skills than anything else. My confidence will either take me through or I'll retreat to myself and my room. We'll see!
