Back pain and yoga
Saturday, February 20, 2016
About a year ago, I went to a gentle yoga class and the instructor had us use a ring to pull/push our legs straight while we were on our back and then one of the legs folded over the knee of the other. Well, after that, say the next day, I started getting back pain and I went to my bed, and it hurt for a week.
I did some research on-line and at the library about what to do, and I found a book that showed different ailments and what yoga poses would help. The message that book told me was being inactive was good and not to overstretch the back, but that certain yoga stretches might help the back and it gave some ideas.
And then today when I did the trivia questions, "Is bed rest good for back pain?" Sparks says this is the answer: Bed rest is not a good treatment for back pain. When you are in bed for extended periods of time, you can lose muscle strength which is actually bad for your back. Bed rest should not be used for more than two days if you can help it. Want to relieve back pain easily? Just get moving! Normal daily activity can actually help relieve back pain in most cases. Remember to always consult with your doctor to find out which options are best for you. Learn more about back pain by watching this
Well, the same class rotated and I'm feeling better this year but I got the back pain again and off I went to rest with ice/heat to help me. Then I kept going to my yoga classes only I let my body say what it wanted to do, and I have to admit that it is a good thing. I moved only not too much, and I'm not doing some extra moves or the ring or straps this week.
I'm spending more time on my home matt in the livingroom and letting my back feel good stretched out.
