Update to "Drama"

My mom is seeking legal advise now through a company that helps seniors for free. I am not sure that is the best option but it is what she is going with. My stepbrother admitted his wife lied about being given the property and it seems like he realizes the extent of her crazy. Considering their past and the scams he went along with I am not convinced that he is not trying to pull another scam in order to get back in "good graces" with my mom. I guess I am just skeptical like that after seeing the depths of their greed.
Anyways, one thing I hope anyone reading this can take away from our situation is make sure your legal documents are in order and that your loved ones also have their stuff in order, you never know what will happen. It is a hard topic but one that needs to be discussed.
My parents had their wills done by a lawyer but he failed them. He did not do a Power of Attorney and as it turns out a marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc, does not give anyone the legal right as POA. Who would have thought? I would have bet good money, if I had any, that these things would automatically make the other person the responsible one if needed but they don't and anyone with $120 (the cost to get the paper signed) can become the dictator of a loved ones health. We have learned the hard way and I hope no one else has to go through this.
