Why do I put myself last?

Monday, January 25, 2016

I guess maybe it's a mom thing, or a woman thing. Maybe even a social worker thing. I tell my clients that they have to put on their own oxygen mask first, like they tell you on an airplane. "If you have small children, put on your own mask first, then tend to them. You can't help anyone if you are passed out." (this is obviously not a direct quote). Why can't I do this in my own life? Why is it so difficult? My needs are never first, often to the detriment of my mental health. I do it knowingly most of the time. I just get stuck.

It has took me 18 years before I realize to take care of me to take care of my family and my health issues: anxiety, depression, PTSD and epilepsy.

It took me a very, very long time to learn how to take care of me first but until I did, I just continued my downward spiral with physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health!

As you probably are already aware given your vocation, identifying that you are doing it is the first step!

Next step...what small thing can you change and do to take care of you better?

Hey...Spark People has become my support groups, for you see I am a recovering grease-holic. Yes, it is true if you can "fry it" I can "eat it".

Seriously moderation is a very important key to being successful in our journey. One day at a time....Look for small victories...Look for non-scale successes.

Spark People research has found that people who get involved in social teams tend to be more successful in their efforts.

I want to personally invite you to join the "SparkPeople's Official Healthy Habits Challenge Team" at: http://teams.sparkpeople.com/SPOHHC There you will find others that will support you in your journey and you will be able to help others as well.

We have one of the best leadership team there is and we are here to help. YOU can DO this!

Oh by the way...have you ever tried Fried cardboard, don't have much favor but a nice crunch....lol....Live life today.
