Gyms are not one size fits all

Monday, January 04, 2016

I am do want to incorporate more lifting and such in my daily life and I would love to have a gym home again. So I went back to Gold's gym . OH boy, I remembered why I canceled the membership back then. The gym just didn't give a crap about me unless I pay them a ton of money in private trainer lessons. So I was a little bit lost after I set my mind to signing up today. The lady trying to sign me up didn't even try to work with me even a little bit. So I said screw this. There got to be a better alternative in this town. I am determined and if I have to I will do it on my own at home. But I do like gyms as well. It gives me a chance to work on my other mole hill: getting out of the house and getting myself out there.
I have had to fight with anxiety for years now. I don't know how else to fight this than head on. I also think that a group exercise group is more motivating for me than doing it on my own.

I probably have found a gym and I am actually so happy with the staff there. And yes I do want a personal trainer eventually but it will be when I am ready. And I ate great food.

My biggest challenge will always be my food intake.
So I am trying to put it all in the foodtracker and try to better myself one day at a time.

Hope you find a gym you love! I am so fortunate to have a gym at work that works for me. There is definitely an advantage to getting out of the house and working out with other like-minded people.

I love my gym, Snap Fitness. It's very small but feels like a community there, and is owned by the nicest couple who respond to my every request immediately when a piece of equipment is broken, or the clocks aren't showing the right time, etc. Not sure if you might have a Snap Fitness near you, but it might be worth a look. It's not the cheapest gym near me, but not the most expensive one either, about $30/month.

I'm sorry that your Gold's gym is not great. I can understand how that is. I can't afford a home gym because I use way too many weights and love variety. I've been lucky enough to love my current gym, Anytime Fitness, but it is expensive. You just can't let the gym staff turn you away from fitness. Be stronger than them, better than them. It sounds cheesy but you are only hurting yourself if you let them get the better of you. I honestly wish you the best of luck while you look for something that is right for you.

As for food, I have no idea how much I was consuming until I started tracking (and tracking EVERYTHING). I couldn't lie to myself anymore and realized I had to change the way I looked at food, exercise and myself. It was a big wake up call.

The truth is, in terms of food, in general, I don't deny myself anything. Some days I will have that pizza or beer or chocolate. I just plan more now. I exercise more. I make it so I deserve it.

I don't like gyms. I am so self conscious that I can't bring myself to go. I prefer to walk around my neighborhood and walk at work.
