I was going to write my New Year's resolution blog a little early - but my resolutions are basically the same every year - lose 10 pounds, run faster, get leaner.
My sister-in-law commented that I'm having a "Hallmark" Christmas - you know, the kind that we celebrate in all the Hallmark card commercials, where special occasions brighten family life.
And she's right - lots of things are going RIGHT right now. My daughter got engaged about a month ago - and we went wedding dress shopping right before Christmas and the first dress she tried on was the ONE. And she looks SO beautiful in it that I cried. And we love our prospective son-in-law!
My son and his wife are expecting their first child - and at Christmas they announced that it will be a girl... so exciting, and (fingers crossed) all is going very well. And as a prospective Grandma who is sewing quilts and cute baby stuff, I have to say little girls are much more fun to sew for!
We are officially a year away from my husband retiring - and I plan to go half-time at that point. It's exciting to think of all the changes in the coming year - cataract surgery (no glasses after 50+ years!), new baby, wedding, probably downsizing into a new house, possibly a hiking vacation with my daughter and sister-in-law in Scotland (still to be decided... but looking promising!) Exciting, terrifying, it's just life and it's changes barreling down on us.
So I'm reflecting on my "Hallmark Christmas" with gratitude. There are few times in your life where you are really aware of how much you have that gives you happiness.
This has been one of those times.
