Okay, who survived the holidays? That's right...THIS GIRL!
Phew! That was rough! (Not really...) To be completely honest, Christmas was SO much easier than Thanksgiving. I'm a bit further out from surgery and able to eat a little more. I can have a bite of this or that and be satisfied. Did I make some not so great decisions? Sure...but, again, within limits.
So in the past two weeks since being released to solid foods, I've eaten fried foods, french fries, pizza, pasta (but that didn't stay down), and bread. But only a bite or two of most of them to test the tummy. Mostly, the tummy hates them! Some are more immediate than others. The pasta, like I said, would NOT stay down. The fried food was the one that took the longest. It goes down fine, I guess, but it doesn't sit well and that took me a few tries to figure out. I'm back to avoiding it.
Happily, salads sit just fine (so many people have trouble with lettuce until about 5-6 months out that I was worried since I LOVE fresh salads). Also sitting well are lean protein sources - chicken, fish...I can even get down a few bites of steak. There are upsides and downsides to all of this. But I'm just taking each day as it comes with full realization that things won't always be this easy.
I lost 5 pounds this week.
I haven't been to the gym yet. (I go tonight!) I like to do my workouts by cleaning and shopping and running around with my neices and nephews and kids. I like just being able to move around more, so that's what I've been doing! Unfortunately the pains in my knees, hips and back have returned. I'll be calling to chiro today to get an appointment for an adjustment.
I do have to say, it's a learning curve. I told Shane that I'm fighting two little demons in my head - the one that says THIS is the time to take advantage of my quick losses and eat REALLY WELL and build good habits and the other that says it might not always be this easy to have ONE BITE of something I want (like a cookie) and then turn the rest away and I shouldn't stress myself out so much that I hate life and everyone around me. Right now I'm managing myself well. I've allowed some indulgences in the past two weeks but I'm starting to feel like I got that out of my system and I've returned to some of my better habits.
Setting good habits was never all that hard for me. I'm hard-headed. I know what to do. I get a little self-righteous even when I do the right things. I feel better about myself no matter my size when I'm making good choices for myself...and I'm starting to remember that now. It's been months of torture to get back here and now I've got some hope back and I'm ready to do the hard work. Phew! Thank goodness! (I was worried this me wouldn't come back! *lol*)

Not too shabby! It's my last weigh in of the month/year, so that means I've lost nearly 80 pounds in 2015!! What a GREAT year for me!! I'm ready to build upon that!

Make Healthy Choices
We don't really do much for New Year's. It's never been a huge thing in my house. I plan on making fish on that day in my new steamer I got for Christmas (fish on New Year's is a Japanese tradition we learned from our exchange student last year!). A nice, healthy meal! We're also saving up for a family vacation this summer at the beach, so I'll be doing a LOT more cooking at home in the next few months! This week on the menu:
Pizza (I plan to make a Chicken Crust Pizza tonight - find it on bariatriceating.com)
Tacos (which I'll have in a bowl with no shells)
Kung Pao Chicken (I'll have it without rice)
Veggie Soup (I cannot wait to make some veggie soup from scratch!)
Fish, Veg and Rice (again, I'll leave the rice out of mine)
Beans and Cornbread (I might have a couple bites of cornbread, but that's it)
Get Back to Fitness
I've decided to challenge myself to 31 Days of Fitness..and I'm starting today instead of January 1 because I'm a rebel! I was waiting for my hips/knees/back to feel better but I think I've come as far as I can in their healing without helping them along with some strength and stretching. My flexibility is returning so I cannot WAIT to return to Yoga! So the idea is to do at least 10 minutes of intentional activity every single day for the next 31 days. It can be yoga or stretching on days I need to rest my knees, or 30 minutes in the gym doing circuits on the strength machines or 20 minutes on the elliptical followed by light strength and stretching. I even look forward to getting my boxing gloves back out! It doesn't matter what it is, but it has to last 10 minutes and must be intentional - solely for the purposes of working out. No cleaning. No walking in the mall (unless walking to the mall and back is the workout I plan for the day). Getting dressed for a workout is important because THAT is the habit I need to get back. Make Happy Plans for an Awesome Year
This is a big year for me. I'll be turning 35 next week and I don't know why but that's always been one of those huge milestone numbers for me. I feel like 35 is when "middle-aged" starts. I'm not a young adult anymore. I'm grown. My kids are mostly grown. It's about time I start thinking about things like retirement and a happy heart/soul! I will be working on those goals by intentionally planning happy things for the year. Things that feed my soul. I love adventures, so it's time for me to have more of them! I already ordered myself my own presents for my birthday to pamper myself and make myself feel amazing and beautiful that day. I still don't know what to plan for that day, but I think Hubs and I are going to do another day trip to Columbus for dinner, shopping and a movie at the end of the month. It's time to make an effort every day to be happy with myself and my life and rid myself of things that don't bring me joy.
I don't usually make weekly weight loss goals, but I will say I have my eye on trying to get as close to 300.6 (my unicorn weight) by the time we go on vacation at the end of June. The yearly goal to be well in the 200's by next Christmas and somewhere as near to a size 16-18 as possible. As long as the weight keeps moving in the right direction with few stalls, I'll be quite alright. =)
