Onto the Next Adventure...

Monday, August 03, 2015

In just two short weeks, I will doing my next adventure and running a Ragnar Relay. A Ragnar Relay is a race where 12 people run 200 miles between Friday and Saturday. Each runner has three legs. My legs are 8, 5, and 3, I think.

Since April I have been leading my 5K running group on Mondays and it's been hot in June and July. I feel it has been really conditioning me and getting me ready for the hotness of the race. I actually can kinda run in the heat. Some of my teammates are struggling to run in the heat and I am doing alright. It feels good. I won't be fast by any means but I take less and less walk breaks due to the heat.

I think I am even doing pretty good with hills. Every Thursday in June I got up at 6 am to run one of the bluffs which is a mile up. She now works Thursdays so we don't run in the morning anymore. I do try to put hills in our runs. Tonight I ran this route with one of the people in my running group. The hills were alot of easier tonight than they were in June. Not only that but I could have just keep going after I went up the hill. I LOVE that feeling!

Heat and hills were two things I was most concerned and I am really proud of how accustomed I have gotten to the heat and hills this summer. I think I will try to do some hills this week and than maybe next Tuesday. In other words, I think I am ready to take this on. So excited! emoticon

Judging by the FB posts I see on the local running groups, it's a bit of a feat just to hold a Ragnar team together long enough to get the relay done! There were various teams looking for replacement runners because someone became unable to do it . . . and I couldn't sign up because the timing is all wrong for my other running commitments.

Hope you have a lot of fun, and I hope your team holds together well!
