I've been trying to change my mindset to "body positive"....loving your body at any size. At first I thought it was bs but over time, it has worked. My youngest son is a talented athlete, and so are most if not all of his friends. He's graduating High School and we attended the Athletic Awards Dinner last night. Today I'm looking at pictures from the event and thought about what truly talented athletes they all are. Then I'm looking at all of them. Different shapes and sizes. My son is 6 foot 5 180lbs. Tall and lean. One of the other kids in the pic is about 6 feet tall but bulkier than my son. The other kid is 5 foot 8 and lean built. They all play basketball and other sports, and need the skill set that the others bring to be successful. That skill set is based on the type of their body.
Anyway, might seem obvious to some, but I looked at them from a new perspective. Coming from a place where most of my life I thought to be beautiful you had to be thin. Well, it's all relative. You don't need a specific body type to be an athlete and you certainly do not need to be thin to be beautiful.
I think even Sparkpeople is guilty of advertising the "fit" woman or man for their articles/blogs. You can be fit at any size, you are beautiful at any size, you are not defined by your size, shape, or a number on the scale.
