So today I had my first session of eight. I already knew Pete so it wasn't too hard and awkward as he has some knowledge of my history and problems. The session wasn't too demanding but he did set me super-slow squats that were challenging, going down was easy enough but coming up not so much. He agreed that core work is essential and he is using how long I can hold a plank for as a measure of improved core strength. The problem was that my arms slipped so I fell over thus giving me 43 seconds (I feel sure I could hold it for at least a minute). As the session was only half an hour I went back into the gym for some extra cardio and flexibility. I'm looking forward to next week and seeing how much progress I make with a new regime.
