Whole 30

So, upon recommendation from my sensei in karate, I read the book "It Starts with Food" and started a Whole 30 on Sunday. I figure it can't hurt to do it for a month, especially since it's all healthy natural food and was recommended by someone I consider a trusted source.

My thoughts so far:

1.The food is sooo delicious! It's not like I'm missing out on much, especially since I had already started to eat pretty clean, but the thought of processed junk food really puts me off. It doesn't taste anywhere near as good as what I'm eating now.

2.I feel great so far. I'm only on day 6, but have continued my workouts throughout. I was a bit concerned about not having enough energy--mostly on Friday when I do the Body Revolution dvd first thing and then kickboxing at 10 (which was extra tough today btw)--but I felt plenty of energy during class today . I ate directly after as recommended and then had my lunch a couple of hours later.

3.I'm finding I need to do 4 meals (or 3 meals and a snack) still since I've been feeling a bit hungrier the last couple of days. The first 2-3 days were fine. I think once my body adjusts and I get more used to exact portions I want it'll come.

4. The not weighing in thing is really tough for me. I actually cheated on this yesterday because I "felt heavy" but was down 2 lbs so far. Also it'll be tough not to look at the scale at work (Lifetime Fitness) when I do my weigh in for the 90 day challenge I signed up for.

5. Prep time--OMG I feel like I'm constantly in the kitchen preparing food! I really need to work this part out or it might be my downfall. I need to plan ahead, but since it was a quick decision to start it, I didn't really do this as much as I would have liked. Maybe I'll have some time this weekend to come up with next weeks meal plan! Unfortunately the rest of the family (except my daughter--so she says) is not really on board with all of this so I have to make sure to add in a few things for them sometimes. I'm trying to make it as close as possible though!


Overall, I'm finding this way of eating works for me right now. I will see how I feel after I finish the 30 days, but I'm thinking I'm going to be sticking mostly to this way of eating for the majority of the time. I really hope to see some fat loss since that's my main goal over weight right now--although I know they kind of go hand in hand where I am right now.

    I'm on Day 5 and I feel great too! I took my exercising light this week with just walking but am going to kick it up next week.
    I totally understand about the prep... I did do a lot of prep beforehand and totally would of already been lost without it. I'm enjoying foods and "snacks" that were boring to me before.

    My favorites so far were sweet potato hash, pork tenderloing with a little hot sauce and apple with cashew butter.
