A Reason To Get Up In The Morning

Sunday, February 22, 2015

We all need a purpose in life. A reason to get up in the morning. For the last 6 months I have been feeling like I have no purpose.

Every morning I get up, go to work for a measly 3 hrs where I am not appreciated for the important work that I do. I then go home, eat lunch, take a nap, or do laundry and then wait for my daughter to get home from school. I look forward to seeing her and hope that she has some little tid bit about her day that she would like to share with me. Maybe she did something in her life today that I could feed off of. I then make dinner, watch tv or read and then go to bed. Yawn!

Ok, I'm done telling you about my day. You all can wake up now!!!

Anyone who knows me knows I'm not a boring person. I am outgoing, social and love to have fun! So why am I now living this lackluster lifestyle? I'm sure the weather has a little bit to do with it. All of us have sort of been hibernating on the east coast lately. I used to walk or jog at the local trails every day. They have been snow covered for what seems like forever. So I have been doing little to no exercise. I gained 4 lbs. since New Years. I managed to not gain weight all through the holidays but then gain it in the 2 months after. There was no way that I was going to gain weight again. I've kept this weight off for 2 years! There was no way that I was going to undo all the work that I have done over the last couple years.

So I needed to do something with myself and for myself. I used to belong to a gym, but I quit last year. I found a lot of success when I belonged to the gym. I quit last year for 2 reasons. One, the zumba instructor that I loved quit and two, my husband was not working and he suggested that I quit to save money and just walk at the park. Well, I can't sit around waiting for someone to plow the trails. They never do it. Meanwhile, here I sit getting lazier and lazier. Lumpier and lumpier.

So I joined a new gym! I did some research and found a brand new gym in my town that is perfect for me and dirt cheap. They were offering $0 down and $20 a month. It's so nice and shiny and clean! All the cardio machines have TVs. What's so nice is that you can bring a guest for free anytime you want. There is no limit. I was shocked. I was like, "really?" and they said, "yes, if you want to bring your husband or daughter with you every day you can at no charge!" Wow, what a nice feature! And here is the most exciting thing about my new gym. They have free zumba classes and guess who the instructor is? My fabulous instructor that quit from my old gym!!! So excited!

So I've been going to my new gym for a week now. I love it so much. I'm really happy with it! And the icing on the cake...........I have already lost 2 of the 4 lbs. that I gained! Yay!

It may only be an hour a day. But I feel like I have a purpose now. Finally, a reason to get up in the morning. Now that's gotta be worth $20 a month. Don't ya think?

Sounds perfect! You are definitely worth that $20 a month and it sounds like a really great gym! I wish mine had that "bring a guest for free" feature! My daughter had to pay $10 to do yoga once with me!

Tina, I am so glad you took ACTION. What is wonderful about your story is you recognized the fact that you were falling into a little bit of a slump, or a funk and were starting to under appreciate the beautiful woman you are. You saw the signs and you said STOP.....it stops here, I don't want this, I have come so far and I am the only person that can make a difference. I am so happy you were able to find a gym that is cost effective, allows you to have friends and family join you, and happens to have YOUR FAVOURITE ZUMBA instructor. HOW GREAT IS THAT? It was meant to be. I totally understand what it feels like to not have purpose. I really look forward to some changes in my life this year to help me find my purpose in life again too. Just need to sell this house and get back to the city where i can find a fit for me. I know it will involve a part-time job and definitely some volunteering! CONGRATS GIRL for putting you first. It is a hard thing to do, but it is the best thing to do!

Yay for you! This winter has been brutal- I totally relate. Days I go to the gym are happy days. Days I don't are long! That guest policy is great!

Winter cold does suck, I'm sure that's a big reason for your slump. But congrats on finding a nice, shiny new gym, getting your favorite instructor back and losing 2 lbs!! Good job and good for you :)

Darling, I'll pay the 20 for your membership if it keeps you feeling so much happier and more positive. Well, you know what mean. Glad to hear your good news. If I'm ever in the area, I'll be your guest-of-the-day as long as you don't look.

I am soooo jealous! But really, I am psyched for YOU :) How awesome that your old instructor is there - that is fantastic :) My boss is going away again March 8 - 18th. Maybe I can come to your gym one day as your guest!

Yeah, this winter has been long and tough. I truly miss being outside too. Coming home from vacation has been harder than anticipated - b/c I was outside every day for most of the day. I really miss it. And it is hard when there's not much to look forward to. You made a smart move. I'm glad you found the gym and joined it :) And congrats on dropping weight already. That is awesome!

Good for you. I think it is well worth $20. a month if not more. What a great thing to find a new gym for cheap, a bright, shiny new facility and the fact that you can bring a gues for free is awesome. I am so glad you went out and found it. It sounds like it was exactly what you needed and with the winter that we are having, the paths wont be clean for at least a couple of months yet.
Have fun with your zumba and new gym and congrats on getting rid of the 2 lbs!!!
    Way to go!
