Stuck between a need for water and a need for sodium...

Tuesday, January 27, 2015

So post-op I am required to get a minimum of 64 oz of water per day. I love water. I really do. Drinking water itself has not been a hardship for me in over 10 years, but now it can be quite a challenge as I can only take small sips at a time and if I drink to much I get sick to my stomach. The problem that I am having is that apparently the water is flushing all of the sodium out of my body and I find myself getting light headed often. My doctor has informed me that I must now add salt to my food, which is something I have never really done before. With the limited amount of food that I eat, and the majority of it being food I would never NEVER never add salt to (such as yogurt and protein drinks) I am finding that I will need to find creative ways to change my diet again. So, for now instead of yogurt for breakfast I can cook an egg and top it with some avocado and salt and pepper. For lunch I can eat some cottage cheese and add in some salt and pepper and maybe some kind of fresh steamed veggie such as brussel sprouts or zucchini with some salt. Hopefully these changes will be enough to get the light headed feeling to dissipate and me not have to start drinking more things like Gatorade or other drinks besides water.

I hope it evens out for you with those changes and surgery healing. If it comes to it, there are some electrolyte powders out there that don't have all the sugars of the Gatorade types and you can easily tailor to taste when mixing.

Wow! That is fascinating! I never knew that one could lose so much sodium! Just do what your medical doctor says is right for you . Soon, you will be able to feel a difference. Bless your heart on this journey! You are doing so well and I know this is hard!! I am praying for you. Hang in there girl!

Hey.. Never heard of anyone who has to add salt.. I have to watch it.. The water I can tell you .. I can't stand to drink water .. It has no taste.. so what I did is get a picture and put sliced lemon and oranges in to and by morning It is ready.. it is flavored and not bad.. I even found at the Super Walmart I think it is their brand it is on the soda Isle with the water Clear American Blackberry Water and I really like that one.. they have a lot of other flavors but love the Blackberry the best.. Maybe this will help you a little.. cause the water is important to drop weight.. Well I Pray that maybe this will work for you... In His Love and Grace Just Me Jane
