HM Training = New Motivations

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged again…too much going on with work to find the time. Even after work I’ve been living glued to my blackberry, which is stressful, but crazy time should end in the month or so and hopefully be back to normal. That being said I’ve still been able to fit my exercise in. I’ve made sure I’ve done it, even if that means bringing my blackberry and keeping it on the treadmill with me as I run (who says you can’t read emails as you run?). I don’t know why it took me so long to figure out what a big stress reliever exercise is.
Signing up for these 2 half marathons this year has been the best thing for me motivational wise. I’ve discovered throughout the last year and half that I do best when I have a challenge with an end goal that I am trying to meet. I also do best when I have an actual “training plan”. I found that out when I discovered the C25K program and it started walking me through the each day to meet. Before I knew it I had completed it, and lost a bunch of weight. Completing Insanity was something I never thought I could do either, but checking off those calendar days every time I finished was such a feeling of satisfaction. The B210K training program – same deal. After those were done and I did not have anything, I was just, blah…. I was exercising, but not putting my all into it.
Lately after months of plateauing I feel like I have my head screwed back on straight again fitness wise. I’ve been working on my HM training plan and love it. At 38 I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been (I don’t remember ever being able to run this far). I have my year mapped out fitness wise. Feb = 10K race (registered), May = HM (registered), Sept = HM (registered). I might register for some other races this year but for now until I get a little less intimidated I will see how the 10k goes as to what type of races. I still have the need to want bigger races because I still can’t fight the insecurity of…if I go to one of small runs will the other fast superfit runners fly by me at 7/8 mph thinking…she doesn’t belong here?
Signing up for the HMs has also made me refocus on my weight as well. I had lost 75 pounds and gotten to 10 pounds within my goal, and was just stuck. I think most of that was because I was had gotten comfortable and for the first time in years was starting to get happy with where I was at. But I never made it to my goal! Signing up for the HM has changed my motivation to lose the weight, whereas before my motivation was to be healthy for me, my kids and husband (which I currently am), now my new motivation is to drop weight so that there is less stress on my joints as I run the farther distances this year. Plus a lighter me will be easier to haul around for over 13 miles!
Okay, everyone is probably sick of hearing me talk about this now…I hope everyone is having a great week!
