2014 Recap

2014 had its ups and downs – not only with my weight. I didn’t really have much of a loss this year. But that is ok; it wasn’t a great health year. Started the year off playing in the snow, moved on to having heart surgery. I knew it was coming and it scared the day lights out of me. And then it was over with. The build up to it was the worst part. Yes, the surgery was very painful but when you can’t take any pain medicine because it all makes you throw up, a lot of things are painful. And the recovery was frustrating. But not as bad as it could have been. Then I celebrated my birthday by hiking 9 mile sin the mountains. It was my way of saying ha, take that body. My heart did much better than the rest of my body. After that I moved on to falling down the stairs and hurting my knee. The forced rest from it was actually good for me. Made me relaxed and take the time to get some stuff done. Holiday season came and went. It was a very good Thanksgiving. I drove to Iowa and picked up my son then we all drove to Georgia to spend it with my parents. Christmas came and my son couldn’t get off from work, school was out but he also works. So dh and I drove to Georgia again to spend with my parents, it was good for them. On the way home stopped and saw my Aunt. New Year’s eve was very quiet, watched football, watched Baltimore’s fireworks on TV and went to bed. For me that is a perfect way to end the year.

Goals for year
1. Lose 60 lbs.
2. Get in shape
3. 3. Pay off my bills
4. Get a job
5. Do at least one race

This past month my eating has slipped. I am eating more and have not been watching my sodium. Because of that I gained. I sat down this week and made of a couple weeks’ worth of menus. I will just keep rotating them. Changing them when necessary. I know my dh won’t eat what I am eating most nights so I put a second option for him to eat. The groceries for the next 2 weeks have been purchased. My dh told me which days he wanted to eat the second option. It tends to be most days but that is ok. Usually it ties in with what I am eating so it will be easier. I have my exercise planned for the week and it is posted where I can see it. No excuses. To lose 60 lbs. I will need to lose 5 lbs. a month or about 1.15 lbs. a week. That is a calorie deficit of 4039 per week. Very doable.

The timeline I am looking at is:
15 lbs. by April 1
30 lbs. by July 1
45 lbs. by October 1
60 lbs. by December 31

I would also like to be able to go hiking in the mountains for my birthday again in July. I know I will not lose 1.15 lbs. every week; there will be weeks where I lose more, some I lose less. But it will all work out in the end.

To pay off my bills I need to get a job. My bills are being paid; I just want them paid off. I have an interview this week so hopefully, it will go well.

My last goal is to do a race. I miss doing them so I want to get back to the point where I can again. Losing weight and getting back into shape will help with that. It all depends on my poor knees.

It is getting late and I need my sleep. Have a great evening!
