Downside to drumming

Monday, December 22, 2014

I love playing the drums. If I could play everyday I probably would. And with trying to lose weight I've started tracking my steps on my phone. I realized how many calories I burn when I'm really going balls out. A 2 hour practice is around 650 calories and about 7 miles. While I haven't tracked it yet, I know a 3+ hour show has to be more. Plus, my energy is increased to the max and so I'm playing faster and harder.

The downside is that at a show I tend to expend every ounce of energy that I had. Especially after packing everything up, loading it into the cars, driving back to our practice space, unloading it and taking it down stairs, and then drive home. Once I'm home it take awhile to get to sleep. I usually will get home around 3 in the morning. I fall asleep around 4:30/5. My family is pretty good about letting me sleep in until around 10. But it's Sunday, it's family time. So, lets get moving. No rest for the wicked.

We tend to forget to count calories from such activities.

I bet it does burn a lot of calories! I've watched people playing the drums, and I would never have that kind of energy!! Good for you. emoticon
