Cheat Day or Treat Day

Monday, October 13, 2014

Lately I have seen some discussion of "cheat days".

I don't have "cheat days" as I call them "treat days" and I plan for them.

CHEAT is such a negative work

• disgrace,
• indiscretion,
• regret
• remorse
• shame
• failing
• lapse
• misbehaviour
• self-condemnation
• self-reproach
• wrong

TREAT is Positive.

• delicacy
• delight
• fun
• goody
• pleasure
• refreshment
• enjoyment
• gratification
• joy
• satisfaction

I usually plan for one treat day each week, often a Friday or Saturday. I find it really helps me as I can resist something earlier in the week and save it for my treat day.

It is often just a treat meal not necessarily a whole day. For example I may be craving fish and chips

- then I will allow myself to have it on my assigned treat day. I count the calories and enjoy it.

It helps not to have it forbidden or feel guilty for eating it.

Another week it might be pizza or cheesecake.

By planning for it I am able to eat healthier and lower calorie the day before and if necessary the day after.

For me the main thing is not to have leftovers of whatever it is. Then the treat day doesn't extend into the next day.

Have a treat and enjoy it!!

Jane, I don't call them cheat days, but I control my portions very tightly when having cheesecake (2 bites), pizza (1 slice), or random meal prepared by family (1 cup).

I really enjoy you you laid that out. I used to have a "cheat day", but really it was a "treat" day. I also logged all my foods. It was generally on a Sunday, because I like to go out to eat after church. And, I tried to use good habits. Say I got a whopper...I'd bring my own bread and cheese. lol At the end of the day, I never had to feel guilty. Cheating=guilt. Treating=Pleasure. Thanks for the reminder :-)
