I have been struggling with a bout of depression and I 've learned a few things , 1.) I can't ignore it(depression), it will NOT go away. I kept thinking to myself , " You're just a little blue." or... " I have so much to be grateful for, what is my problem? " 2.) Isolation isn't the same as taking a little" Me" time. I found myself only coming out to shop for food or to take care of business I couldn't do over the I-net. I couldn't wait to jump into bed or the couch and veg out! 3. ) There are people who can help, but you have to let them know your need. I really do have a lot to be grateful for , although my depression is a chronic condition, I'm learning to develop a support group. The SP articles I read tonite discussed this very thing. So tonite I'll speak of having good mental health.
Good job for acknowledging the issue! That is one huge step! Now, don't close yourself off, and ask for help. Anywhere, everywhere! Find out what works for you, and keep working on it. I have dealt with depression myself too, and was fortunate to be invited to a week end seminar called Taketina by a friend. Basically, it was a seminar where dance led to reflection on ourselves. I went in to support my friend (Of course I am fine!), and it was a mind boggling, eye opening experience. It was very tough at first, but I gained more than I could ever have imagined by opening up and sharing.
