My last weigh in recorded was on December 7 of 2013. Where does the time go? It is so easy to get wrapped up on life and lose focus. As I restart the journey to health I tell myself that each time was just practice for when I get it right, this time. My weight damage over the past 6 months was not as bad as I feared. Last week I got on the scale and was at 351, but after my week one weigh in I'm back to 346. My first goal was 5% but the second goal is going to be getting back and below 329.
Having said all that about numbers that is not why or how I got refocused on health. Vacations and being out of breath slapped me in the face like a thrown fish in Seattle. First I took my Son to a baseball game and walking from the parking lot to the seats had me out of breath like I had run a marathon or something. The next week we made a trip to Houston to visit NASA and the USS Texas. I felt horrible that I could not explore the ship with my son because I was to out of shape and unhealthy. Climbing the 88 steps to see the old mission control room at NASA also left me feeling like an NFL tackling dummy. Even taking a tram ride around the NASA complex that walking required to visit the rocket park was embarrassingly breath taking, and not breath taking in a special way, just me out of shape. Here is the other problem with my 6 months of bad food. My blood sugar started to hover around diabetic levels again and obviously my blood pressure was inching higher. In November of last year my doc took me off blood sugar and bp meds. So how do I celebrate? By poor food of course. For me to drive to Houston should take between 8 and 9 hours depending on traffic. That stretches way out when I have to stop for the bathroom every 1.5 to 2 hours. Those of you with high blood sugar know what I mean.
Putting this all down in writing helps me to organize my motivation. Thank you for taking time out of your day to read my thoughts. I'd love to hear yours.
