When I was a child my grandfather would sit me on his knee, show me his wedding ring and tell me that when I got married he would give it to me. Or if I pass before then I will leave it to you, he would say.
He passed several years ago, before I started medical school and well before my marriage. However, with everything going on around his funeral my grandmother was not able to locate the ring at the time.
When I married my best friend, you know the most awesome woman ever, she wanted to design our own rings and I wanted to incorporate his ring into the design. Unfortunately the ring could still not be located. My grandmother knew it was in the house somewhere but could not find it at the time we were making our rings.
A few months ago on the phone with my grandmother she informed me that she had found the ring and had it waiting for me. My father just went up to visit her on the way to see my new nephew and brought it back with him. He gave it to me today.
I'm thinking about getting a necklace to put it on and wear, but for now have found that it fits on my right middle finger or behind my wedding ring.
