Dusting Off My Spark Page and Starting Again!
Wednesday, June 25, 2014
It's been awhile since I logged in here. When I first started SparkPeople last year I did very well and was really enjoying my journey. After losing 40 lbs. I fell and broke my ankle and foot in May of 2013. It took a long time to heal and I gained back all my weight and then some. I know I shouldn't have let it get the best of me but it did.
Just when my foot started feeling better I got very sick. My thyroid was so out of whack it was throwing off everything. My cholesterol was through the roof and my diabetes was out of control with an A1C of 12.9. My doctors suspected thyroid cancer and sent me for all sorts of tests. After a stressful waiting period I was finally diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease which is an autoimmune disease where my own antibodies attack the thyroid. I was actually relieved to know there was a reason for why I was feeling so lousy. After starting new medications, and being put on insulin injections for my diabetes, I am feeling so much better now. My energy levels started to return and back in March I started to get Spring Fever and feeling motivated again. I started to cut back on my carbs and started to take walks and do a few miles here and there on the recumbent bike.
Well little by little I increased my activity and watched what I was eating. I set a goal to lose 53 lbs. by my 53rd birthday. On June 22nd I met my goal. 53 lbs. lost from March 1st - June 22nd! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!
Now I am psyched again. My new love is water jogging and water aerobics. I go to the pool everyday and workout in deep water for hours non-stop. I am seeing my body change and I'm loving the way I feel in the water. Today I worked out for four hours! I could never do that much exercise on land with two bad knees, achy hips and 3 herniated discs in my lumbar region. I am doing my pool workout 5-6 days a week and feeling so motivated again!! Today I even threw in 30 mins of laps (olympic size pool), doing all 4 strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle). What a difference in how my joints feel already.
I erased all my old stats on here and I'm starting fresh today. Now that I have a 53 lb. weight loss in less than 4 months, I am ready to start anew!
Oh I forgot to mention....since I started this new journey my A1C is now down from 12.9 to 7.4 and my cholesterol #'s are all in the normal range as well!
