Ding Dong the Scale is Dead

Monday, June 16, 2014

Ding dong the scale is dead... so I had to go out and buy a new one.

I tried replacing the battery but to no avail, my scale was officially done for. I was pretty disappointed too. It was too expensive to give out on me after 6 months. I think the main problem was that you were supposed to "wake up" the scale by tapping it with your toe. Unfortunately, after purchasing the scale and experimenting with a full range of tapping intensities, it became clear that the only way to activate it would be to "thud" it with your heel. How can you expect something to last when you have to kick it to get it to work?

I did make it too the store to buy a new scale last night. This one is much more basic, and the display lights up simply from standing on the platform : )
Technically this is my first weigh in at all, because my scale was not working when I began Spark People. I'm very excited to finally have the numbers to use as a tool to track my progress.

    Yay for working scales!

I bought a digital scale thinking it would help me be more accurate in tracking my weight loss, only to find that you regularly had to recalibrate it by tapping on it and letting it zero out several times without ever actually putting any weight on it. Otherwise, I'd step on the scale 3 times in a row and get vastly different numbers.

I still have it, and it still... technically... works, but I'm back to using the rotary scale I've had for a few more years.

And of course, lately, I don't bother with either of them. It's enough to see the numbers on the scale going up during my monthly--now bi-weekly, and soon to be weekly--appointments at the doctor's office.
