Willpower Dips & Changes

Willpower is like a gas tank. If you keep using it, you’ll run on empty eventually. I have been working at increasing the size of my gas tank, but sometimes I still run low.

Last week was rough. Company sale, home purchase, dog dying, etc. Friday there was a huge highway mixup and it took me two hours to get home from work. By the time I made it, I was exhausted and starving. I ate bad things, I drank moderately. My tank had run out and I had no cares left to give. My stomach hated me afterwards but the damage was done. Sometimes you gotta hit bottom to go back to the top.

Saturday morning our rental house leak reached a severe enough level to need buckets, and our landlord came over and put his hand through the ceiling it was so bad. I went for a walk Saturday morning to cool off. We had to move all of our dining room stuff into the living room and they will be opening the ceiling between the kitchen/dining for this week. We basically reached the end of our ropes and moved most of our stuff over to the new house this weekend. Unfortunately, we’re not getting our power turned on there until the end of this week. So… we’re fairly kitchenless for at least this week. Unless I can cook it in a microwave, we’re going to have to wing it. I can swing yogurts and salads at work all week, but we’re probably going to end up eating out quite a bit for dinner during this transition. Sigh. Such is life.

We did do ALOT of moving this weekend. I have been doing a TON of stair climbing, lifting, etc and I can feel it in every muscle today! Even in my toes, I swear. We are going to do the big push next weekend so I’m trying to rest up a bit until then. We ordered pretty much a whole house’s worth of new furniture last weekend ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$) so most of the heavy stuff will be delivered and set up for us in the next few weeks. We’ve gone beyond Ikea furniture – does this mean we’re adults now?!

Whenever we start feeling stressed, I paint a picture for my BF of when everything is settled, I cook a healthy dinner in our fancy kitchen and we sit down to eat it on our new dining set and relax. Then we get refocused and keep pushing. I can’t wait for the day!

I’m trying to go with the flow on everything and try not to fall off the wagon too far during this crazy change period in my life. If you’ve got any ideas on how to stay on track while moving and even tips for microwave meals, send ‘em my way pretty please! Thank you!

    Moving is one of the highest stressors in life, it really is.

    We usually live on sandwiches, salad, fruit, cold cereal for a few days - just to make it easier. So I'm not much help with that. Take out food is okay if you have some healthy options but it can get pricey.

    And yes, it will be over soon.

    It really does work that way. If only we could have an endless willpower tank right?!

    Good luck with the move! I love your strategy for keeping sane in the crazy moments. I definitely do that with many spaces in my house lol! (Big one-main bathroom in the house non functional... Need I say more lol)

    I will see if I can think of any tips for non cooked dinners for you ; )!

    Stress sucks but you seem to be taking it in stride. you're right, curveballs are life & its all about ho we handle it.
    I'm also excited to see pics of the new place & i also agree growing outdid of Ikea is a sign of adulthood to some extent...they do still have some pretty sweet things! haha.

    I just have to tell you a Iaughed about moving beyond IKEA furniture. I think that is a sign of adulthood. (I agree with the $$$$$$$ as well - I just bought new furniture Friday and even though it was 60% off, still a big chunk of change).

    I'm so glad that you're moving to a new location and getting out of that rental - it sounds god awful. It'll be a tough week but you'll get there and get back on track with food. For meals - it might be worth getting microwave meals and supplementing with fruits and veggies until you have a full kitchen again.

    i am all about the visualization....stick with that girl! also, new furniture...eeeee! so exciting! i am so pumped for this new chapter for you two. it is definitely possible to remain healthy while eating out -- try not to let yourself get too wrapped up in the "eating out, might as well splurge" mindset, and focus on trying some new healthy salads!!! you got this!

    goodness I can only imagine all those changes can be overwhelming! But I like your plan of taking that moment to rethink and refocus and paint a picture of relaxation! I will definitely have to steal that when I feel overwhelmed! cant wait to see pictures of your new place! I think the best way to stay on track is snacks...I know that sounds weird but at one point I made several 100-calorie baggies and had like, 13 that I could eat whenever throughout the day!
