Psst, you 20 somethings, I wish I had done it sooner rather than later

Friday, May 16, 2014

As I sit here pondering my Spark journey (several years and even more pounds later) I am overwhelmed by the feeling "I wish I had done it sooner". Although I'm glad I found Spark as a 40 something and and am reaping the benefits of a healthier lifestyle, I am left feeling disappointed, that's not quite it, discouraged, yes discouraged that's the feeling.

You see after losing 65 pounds, later rather than sooner, I am left with a body composition that I find, in all honesty, disgusting. There I said it, disgusting. I have these sagging pockets of skin filled with loose fat all over my body, especially my arms. Clothing does wonders to disguise this but here we are in California with temps well into the 90's, it's definitely harder to wear long sleeves and tummy control items without risking heat stroke. I'm uncomfortable going out in public and quite frankly easily could become a hermit to avoid having my arms seen by anyone (shallow I know, but the cold hard truth). It's hard to look in the mirror every day, see what I see and remain diligent in my efforts. I have two options, accept my body as it is (which is really hard to do, but I keep trying) or expensive plastic surgery (not quite sure I'm ready to go down that road, but it is an option).

So to all you 20 something Sparkers who may read this today, learn from my experience, don't be a 40 something with regrets, do it sooner rather than later, your body will thank you.

I'm a 20-something (barely; 30 in August), and I wish that I had done it in my teens. I still have saggy skin and flappy arms which make me a little self conscious in sunny Florida. I don't let it hold me back from doing anything, but I definitely hate it. I'm giving myself a couple of years, but a tummy tuck and arm lift may be in my future.

I totally understand and wish I had done a lot of things when I was much younger. We can't go back, we must plow ahead. I understand how you feel but at some point you need to come to terms with your body. It's the only one you have. You can learn to love it. I understand about plastic surgery but remember, it can also be your friend and you don't have to do it all at once. After I lost a lot of weight I had a breast lift. I can't even tell you how great I felt after. My sagging butt just didn't matter anymore!! LOL - pick an area, get some consultations and do what you feel you need to do! It might make you feel better just getting the information. Personally, from your picture, I think you're beautiful!
