Europe Trip -Day 13 (2014- Blog 87)

Winding down a really special trip. My father's health brought me back here and with my sister we have jointly created a wealth of memories of family, country sides and city scapes. Today we returned to paris on our last long train ride.

The countryside changed from the quiet lush green of Normandy to the hustle of Paris. We found our way to our hotel located close to the Louvre. We choose it for proximity to the metro but found the map a bit deceiving. No matter, at this point we have walked, according to my trusty nike plus, over 36 miles during this trip. What's a few extra miles on our last days in Paris!!!

Because the museum we wanted to see was closed (ARGH!!!), we decided to treat ourselves to the river boat. The sunny day had brought all kinds of folks to the banks of the Seine River, so our eyes feasted on the landscapes of the grand architecture of such places as Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower and the relaxed people strolling, sitting, eating, and waving all along the route.

We had dinner with my father and he shared old photos and some more old stories with us. It was kind of a hard evening as my emotions really tugged hard at me the whole time. Paris is a long long way from my home in Oregon and this trip accentuated the fact that my father's health is weak. I had to bring myself into the present moment and try to etch them into my heart as much as possible.

A crazy taxi drive back to the hotel rounded out almost two weeks of fantastic modes of transport. We prepare for one last day trip to Giverny - the home of Monet's Gardens. We are hopeful that we will get to see the emerging colors of his genius!! Will report out tomorrow.

In no time, I will be back to my daily routines but changed by this rather wonderful trip.

Day's impression = a sentimental day
