Gone for a While

Thursday, March 20, 2014

I didn't want to vanish completely with no explanation, but I don't expect to be on SP much if at all for the foreseeable future. My husband has a large kidney tumor, and we are in all-hands-on-deck emergency mode, while we try to find him the right doctors, arrange for the surgery to take out the kidney and associated adrenal gland, find out if it has spread yet, and so on and so forth.

Also, in a bit of epic timing, I fractured my foot yesterday, and am currently not allowed to put any weight on it at all. As you might imagine, this is complicating the running around trying to take care of medical stuff with my husband thing.

Okinawa is up in the air - I haven't cancelled yet, but I may have to. We've been through a whirlwind of tests and scans over the last week. We start getting results back next week, and we get to find out if this is a scary, but ultimately manageable problem, or an upending of our lives for the foreseeable future. Wish us luck, and all the best to all of you - I hope your 2014 is going far better than ours!

So very sorry to hear of your husband's diagnosis :(( Hope it hasn't spread..
Bad luck about your foot on top of that -hope you heal fast!!
Not a good year here. Back just before X-Mas, I fell and had a compound fracture of my right humerus. That was the good news. They discovered while repairing it that my three year old elbow replacement failed -why? because the humerus bone was almost completely eaten away :( Cultures revealed nothing but because there had to be a reason for it, they guessed slow growing bacteria so I have had six weeks of infusions twice a day of a very powerful antibiotic. They had done a second surgery after the first to take out my elbow replacement, opening up my arm from wrist to shoulder, and they broke my ulna and upper humerus in the process of digging out the cement. So my right arm has been in a cast since then. Next step is a reconstruction, bone grafts, pins and other wonderful things. Don't know when that will happen. I am right handed of course so can't sign checks for the club I manage -doing my duties though, thankfully its mostly computer work! Others are picking up the physical stuff. Bored out of my gourd not being able to exercise and stuck at home watching TV or reading or on the computer..
Please check in and let us know further info if you can..
