Stuck and Frustrated

Ok, I've been on the journey for a while now, and I've been doing great. I understand that. My problem is I'm stuck now. Since the beginning of February I've been between 203 and 199. I keep getting excited to finally be in ONEderland. Then the next time I check I'm back in the 200s.

It doesn't seem to matter what I eat, how much I exercise. I keep gaining and losing these same 4 lbs. And I'm getting really frustrated.

I've changed things up with my exercise. Went from doing Richard Simmons to Jillian Michaels. Even joined an gym and am going there 3 times a week AND doing my video. I know that your body can adjust to the exercise so I changed it up hoping that would break the plateau. Didn't help.

I've gone on the high end of my calories, and gone on the low end of calories. I know I tend to eat less than recommended once I add the exercise in. So I deliberately ate in my calorie range once the exercise was added. Nothing seems to matter. I stay in this same darn 4 lbs.

At this point I'm afraid that I'm going to go back to old bad habits because I'm so frustrated. Especially since I'm going to be massively tempted over the next couple weeks. (Daughter is turning 16 and we are having a big party, hubby's birthday, and son's birthday)

Right now I can use all the support I can get.

    I know our experiences are all different, but having been every from 140 pounds to 260 pounds in my adult life and only in the past two years being able to stabilize my weight at a healthy one, I have to say that the SINGLE most important thing I've learned is that we need to stick to it when we're feeling our most frustrated and at our worst. This is when a plateau, as demoralizing as they are, can turn into serious regain and only make us feel even worse. I think that our bodies get extremely stubborn from time to time and no matter what we do, nothing seems to make a difference--and sometimes those periods can last for months. They take a toll on our motivation for sure, but I think the best solution is to ride them out. Something will change, a tweak you make will start working or maybe you'll find some extra motivation that you didn't even realize you had before. In any case, please don't give up. Fight through this and things will get better.

    Take a deep breath, relax and stop looking at the scale. You should get out the measuring tape. Are you pants looser? do you feel stronger? more energy? emoticon

    A scale platue does not necessarily mean you are not loosing the inches that the weight represented. You could be gaining needed muscle that will in turn burn more of the fat in the long run.

    You can do it! I can't imagine how frustrating that would be! Keep pushing and soon you will be looking back from the 170s remembering this difficult time and being thankful you pushed through!

    I'm in the same type of cycle: gaining & lose the same 4-5 pounds. It's frustrating! But don't give up - keep your workout habits strong. It will pay off! I agree with the previous posters that it may be water weight. Start paying attention to your sodium intake (you can add it to your nutrition tracker)

    I have been on this plateau since Christmas and find it frustrating. emoticon Like you say down yay, wow, their back. boohoo. emoticon I have been feeling like I should give up too, but that will only get me way back where I used to be and that ain't happening. emoticon So I will persevere until my body gets back with the program. emoticon emoticon emoticon

    The most important thing is that you are trying. Don't give up on yourself. The same four pounds you are losing and gaining is most likely from water weight. Pay really close attention to sodium intake. Alot of times we are watching our calories so closely that we overlook sodium which plays a huge factor in gaining water weight and bloating. Try this interval exercise 3 times a week for 4 weeks. On treadmill walk at max incline for 2 minutes at moderate pace, then sprint at a fast pace on incline 5 for 30 sec. Repeat for total of 30 minutes. Make sure you do a 5 min warm up and a 5 min cool down. The high intensity intervals will confuse your muscles enough to keep them active and it gives you a good cardiovascular workout. Always remember to have faith in yourself and believe you can do it. Pain is temporary so push through it.

    you have to see that 4 weeks isn't really that long of a time period for your body to adjust. Keep exercising but try to stay in the upper range of your calorie intake for two or three weeks. Maybe eat more greens and more protein. It sounds like you're trying to change it up but you don't give yourself enough time to see the results ;) Don't let the frustration get you down :)
