Making My Way Back

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

I bought the spark activity tracker the other day and have started using it. It has been quite a long time since I have done any kind of exercise at all, so I decided that for the first few days, I would just wear it to get the baseline of my activity, and boy, I am even more sedentary than I thought I was. So now that I have established that, I have decided that I am going to go back to the gym and join up, especially since this feels like the winter that will not end. I am going to start walking on the treadmill, and hope to work myself up to 30 minutes a day at a good pace within a couple of weeks.

I have also been trying to take a hard look at my eating. Not just how much I eat, but what I physically put in my mouth. I am not a fan of omitting entire classes of food from a diet, because I think that is an unreasonable way to eat..you lose the weight but sooner or later, you are going to eat that other stuff, whatever you are omitting. So I have come up with a plan that I think can work for me. For the last several days, I have completely omitted grain from my breakfast and lunch, and had moderate amounts at dinner. I have really loaded up with the protein and the fruit at breakfast, eaten a good combination of protein and veggies and a yogurt at lunch, and felt very satisfied. I don't find myself starving at dinner at all, but having the grain then does seem to fill me up and make me feel full, to ward off those nighttime eating urges. I am also trying to stay away from as much sugar as possible, including artificial sweeteners.

I think that once I start combining this new eating pattern with more physicality, I will feel better and more energetic. It has been a very tough last year for me and my family, but I think that as spring approaches, we are ready to move forward in a positive way and shed the malaise and sadness of the last year. Looking forward to getting back to a healthy lifestyle again, it has been way too long.

I hope my Sparkbuddies who are still around are doing well. Have a great day!!

Tina, I hope this the tracker is what you need to motivate you to get outdoors and move. I know it has for me. Sometimes it seems that it is not working, but in the end it does a wonderful job of tracking.

Dear Tina, I am truly sorry that you've had such a hard year, but I'm glad that you've been able to do what you needed to do to get through... sometimes that's all we have. As ususal you are armed with a plan, a whole heart-load of self-awareness, and the tools you need to support your journey. I'm conifdent you'll feel back on track in no time!

May today and every day bring to you a ridiculous abundance of whatever you need. May you find peace within and all around you. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith and desire... a desire which even itself issues from God. May all your concerns, struggles, anxieties and fears fall like ashes as you rise on eagle's wings, SOARING above all that would hinder you along this tremendous adventure of being and becoming all you are created to be. May you answer your call and use those gifts that you have received to pass on the love that has been given to you. May the presence of God settle into your bones and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love beyond your wildest imagination. May you be overwhelmed by the grace of God as it simply "overtakes" you moment by moment... rather than being overwhelmed by the cares of life! AMEN.
