Getting back on the wagon

Tuesday, February 11, 2014

Well. It's been quite some time since I was last here. Winter is always a challenge for health & fitness, because I love to run outside. A treadmill just isn't the same. So I struggle with staying motivated to work out. I almost quit my gym membership twice because I don't use it as much as I should. I keep hoping the monthly payment will motivate me to use it...

Also, I'm in a PhD program. So there's that. I've been super busy in lab and in new Neuroscience courses. Oh yeah, I switched programs mid-semester in the Fall, as well as finding out my a**hole ex cheated, throwing him out, dating someone new and moving twice within a month. Hence the long absence.

I'm just busier in general now too because I've taken positions with two clubs on campus, BRANCH which connects campus to the community through public health initiative and community gardens, and Careers in Science Club, which brings in PhDs who no longer work in academia to give current students ideas for future careers. And I love both groups and believe very much in what they do.

Anywho, not that I'm trying to make excuses (ok maybe I am) but now I'm realizing that the lack of exercise mainly is catching up to me. My dresses with cinched waists don't fit the way I want them to anymore, jeans are getting snug, and I pulled out another belt loop. Not good. So it's time to make the gym membership worthwhile again. It may mean getting up at 6:30 am to work out before lab, or not getting home until 7pm some days. But I'm worth it.

Wish me luck!

Welcome back!! It does sound like you are super busy! Life is all about balance, but you gotta do what you gotta do (and lucky for you, it sounds like a lot of that is stuff you love!) Good luck on getting back into fitness, I wish you well!
