What if I Couldn't Grocery Shop for a Month?

Wednesday, February 05, 2014

Need a plan for times when can't get to grocery store for awhile; need enough staples in the house to still be able to eat right. What should I stock my fridge, pantry and freezer with?

Freggies:

-- frozen green beans, blueberries, mixed veggies (e.g. Wegman's heat and eat frozen veggies with sauces), packs of mandarin oranges or peaches in juice

Meals:

-- pasta, pasta sauce, lean ground beef or turkey
-- rice, beans (black and refried), corn tortillas, shredded cheese (can be frozen?) (but usually won't eat without sour cream)
-- frozen healthy dinners
-- thin boneless chicken breasts

Snacks:

-- meal and granola bars

Here in Florida where we have to be prepared for hurricanes every summer I try to keep at least 2-4 weeks worth of food at all times. There have been times when the stores are wiped out just before a storm and you take what you can get. Good reason to stock up with things to keep you healthy and fit, just as you suggest.
