A Tough Mid-Week Run

Thursday, November 14, 2013

I am still keeping up with the running emoticon . Yesterday after work I went for a long run with my older son, Ken. My younger son was too busy playing with his friends and this time he was not interested.

Both my boys play soccer and are quite fit. I have always thought that Kevin, though younger, was a lot fitter than Ken. I realized yesterday that I was mistaken.

When we started out I warned him that I intended to run all the way, but he didn't have to. If he got tired, he could just walk and I would run slowly alongside him.

I soon realized that the boy can really run. I was having a tough time keeping up with him, especially on the hills. Because he was the pacesetter, our run time was much shorter than what we did last week with Kevin, even though we covered the same distance. I have to admit, it was a really tough run.

Ken had not gone on that run willingly, he tried to come up with excuses not to go. But I pleaded with his softer side, the side that never wants to let his mummy down. I know he enjoyed the run because at the end of it, he thanked me for asking him to come along.

Everyday day in every way, I am getting better and better!

I bet you secretly impressed him for he probably thought of himself as the more fit of you two. Most boys think that way of their moms, I think, even if they are fooling themselves. What a wonderful bonding run! And you learned something too. AND got a great work-out!
