3 Week Blog-A-Day Challenge
Answer one question each day:

4. What motivates you to stay committed to a healthy lifestyle?

Honestly? The pain of arthritis. The frustration of not being able to move as I want to. The inner fire that is fueled by stress and negative emotion.

It's counter-intuitive and a tough lesson, but (for me) nearly everything in my life that is difficult tends to improve with some [physical] hard work. And then some focused relaxation in the glow that happens post-workout.

Atrophy and apathy feed on laziness. Goals are lost on the couch. No one succeeds by skipping workouts.

I make my choices. The best choices I make involve me gettin' a-move on! (And when I lose track of that, my SparkFriends are here, telling me to get my shoes laced up!)

Good post! My mom was told she would be in a wheelchair by age 35 because of arthritis - instead she went ahead and had me, to join her other 4 children. She refused to stop moving, from am to pm, and said if she ever did, she would become "glued up" and that would be the end. At age 82, she could still outhike me on the mountain we would go to almost daily.

My dear sweet neighbor who lived to be 90 (and walked everywhere, never drove) often said that if she sat down for too long she was afraid she'd never get back up.

I really liked what you wrote! This month I've put more focus on daily activity and the line "atrophy and apathy feed on laziness" gets this new day off to a great start!!

Ah, the arthritis! Stiffness is no fun, and I'm learning that when I wake up in the mornings and if I sit too long writing on my book project. Trying to learn to set a timer on the sitting at the computer. :) Thanks again for inspiring me as I return to get my move on!

I totally agree. My mom gave up and gave into the pain. She stopped moving and ended up in a wheelchair and prematurely dead. If you have arthritis you have to keep moving.

    Atrophy and apathy feed laziness.

    Preach it, Sister!
