Imaginary Problem

Tuesday, October 22, 2013

I wore my lucky socks to Step class today.

I also wore a grey tennis skirt, an orange top, and my Skechers shoes with the pink and orange laces.

I surprised myself today. I wanted to save my knees so I grabbed the old "baby bench". Couldn't do it! I had to grab a regular bench after 5 minutes in. My knees sure didn't thank me, but the rest of the workout felt better after that. I ended up taking more rests (marching in place) than I usually do, though.

The other thing I did today was spend some time on the treadmill before Step class. You would not believe how slow I went, though. That was totally on purpose, because I was saving my energy for the class. In fact, I spent the first half of my treadmill walk multitasking by playing a game on my iPhone while I was walking -- that's how slow I was going. Then the good music came on and I put the game away and sped things up a bit. All the way up to 3 mph, haha!*

My FitBit stats are off the charts today. Well, by my usual standards I mean. I haven't seen numbers this good since we walked all over Paris and London on our vacation earlier this summer.

Ah, Paris...

I am yearning to go back, but I also want to go back to Hawaii.

The only time I went to Hawaii was when my hip was bothering me. It was just before I started having to use a cane, but my hip was really bad and I couldn't walk far. I nearly cried when I was in the hotel with my son (DH was at a conference) and I overheard a fit mother and her kids talking about how they were going to walk to the zoo that morning. The zoo was only a mile away, but it may as well have been the moon for all the walking I could do at that time. My other thing I want to do in Hawaii is climb Diamond Head. We could see it not too far in the distance from the beach at the hotel.

So, today's imaginary problem is planning where to go on vacation, Paris or Hawaii.

* That's still slow, just not slow enough for me to multitask.

No worries! My hip is fine. The Hawaii trip was five years ago. I had hip replacement surgery four years ago. There was a scheduled follow-up appointment a year later, and the doc said to get it checked again in 10 years. So I still have a few years to go. In fact, that doctor will probably retire in the meantime and I will have to see whoever takes over from him.

Oh, and if I did stop by to do the Race to Robie Creek, I'd be walking too, because this metal hip has to last me a few more decades, so I am not supposed to run or jump around a lot. (Everything I am doing now is low-impact, even Step class. That's why I keep having to modify the patterns. It's also why I do Tai Chi instead of Zumba.)

Wow what a decision to make. I'd choose Hawaii hands down. Now, if you really want to challenge yourself come over to visit me and, when I'm on Part 3 of my 16 week program, we'll do Camelsback hill together. Now, that is a challenge. And, to follow it up we can do the Race to Robie Creek. I'll walk it you can run it. No rest for the wicked. And these challenges are not meant for the weak! (That's why I can't do them yet!)

Now about your hip: Have you recently had it looked at? If so let me know on my SparkPage what the Dr. thought. If you haven't then do so soon. Please!
