This morning I lost track of time and I barely made it to Step class; I slipped in just as the class was starting. Sunday is a busy day for Step. There were 6 men and 12 women in the room. Because I snuck in just in time, I had to take a spot off to the side, and (fanfare, please) I used a regular step bench instead of the "baby" one I normally use.
As it turns out, I was fine on the higher bench, but BOY did I sweat. You know when you exercise so hard that even the tops of your knees are drenched? (Well, even if you don't know personally, you get the picture, right?) It was a workout!
As usual I really enjoyed the class, even though I always stick to whatever basic patterns we learn first. That way, I have a fighting chance of getting the count right without having to cross over to the Dark Side (i.e., do anything backwards or step down in front of the bench).
The thing I love about Step is that I get to move to music and share the experience with a roomful of people. That's important to me. I just wish I was better at it. I wish Step had been around when I was in my 20s. But I guess at that time we had aerobics, which was still a group of people moving to music, except it was all at floor level and it never got too fancy with the choreography (at least the stuff I did).
But so much for Step class. It was 45 minutes in the middle of the morning.
For the rest of the day we had a nice get-together with family. It's such a great time of year for fresh local food. We had corn on the cob, grilled chicken breast, roasted butternut squash, and a homemade pie from the market for dessert. Luckily the teenage boy demolished most of the pie, since he is still of an age and activity level where he can enjoy seconds of dessert, while the rest of us mindfully ate our one serving and savoured every bite.
So that was our first Autumn Sunday in September. The leaves are just beginning to turn, the pumpkins are being harvested, and the cornfields are being mowed into silage.
Alas, tomorrow is Monday. Good night all!
