Taking my own advice

I have a particularly favorite quote I need to apply to my life more often. To paraphrase, it says "to know is not enough, you must apply".
As I sit in front of the monitor, dressed in my workout clothes, I can see the gym across the street from my office. I was feeling particularly motivated a few months ago and committed to a trainer once a week. Alas, the trainer was not quite the right fit for me and instead of doing something about it, I got off track. Busy life, lots going on, caught a terrible cold. Lots of reasons.
Well, I'm still committed to a trainer once a week. Last week, I changed locations and have a different trainer. More convenient to work (convenience to home wasn't working out for me) and this trainer feels like the right fit. We talked more than worked out at our first session and he said some familiar words I haven't applied in a while. I had an 'a ha!' moment. He was encouraging me to just be consistent in getting to the gym. Reminding me that a small effort was better than no effort. That eventually, habit would kick in and I'd be more motivated than I was at the moment. Hang in there and just come. Do something and things will start working together again.
Now I already know this and I was only half-listening at first when I had that magic moment and said to myself, just go and do something. Get the habit going and the motivation will catch you eventually.
Time to go to the gym.
