The Good and the Bad, but Nothing Ugly

Friday, May 24, 2013

Today has not been a stellar day so far, but I guess it's not all bad.

It started last night. My indoor cat got out and she's run off somewhere to have her fun until she gets cold and hungry and wants to come back. (She was spotted early this morning sitting on the porch, but ran away again before anyone could get to her.)

Then my early morning workout was marred by the type of person who makes gym-going a bad experience. A young woman who was not interested in working hard, but got herself a cushy spot on the leg curl machine and proceeded to do "sets" of 3 curls at a time, with a "rest" in between of seven to eight minutes.

I waited. I did 3 x 20 reps on two other machines while I waited. The leg curl was the only machine I had left to finish my lower body workout. But I ended up doing extra leg extensions today because I didn't have time to deal with that kind of bad behaviour. I needed to finish up and get some cardio done since we have a 6:30 deadline for hitting the locker room.

But there is some good news. The good news today is that I finally have evidence that my size IS changing, despite the fact that the scale seems to be getting stuck all the time. After being certain that nothing was going on with this body of mine, I suddenly realized that the size 8 jeans I was wearing were a little baggier than the last time I put them on. So I gave them a tug, and sure enough, I was able to slide them over my hips without undoing the button. (These are my jeans with the most generous cut. I have other size 8's that remain snug. But still, it's a start -- and that is how all my size changes have started.)

I finally feel like I'm truly on my way to a size 6, and that I won't be stuck at a size 8 indefinitely.

[*sound of a great big sigh of relief*]

Good for you. Glad your jeans are getting looser. As for the gym lady I would have said something. That is just plain rude. But I am 5'10 and built like a boxer so never get lip in the gym if I confront this bad behavior. I guess this is a small perk of being on the larger side.

I can't wait to start losing wt by changing my diet plan. You are inspiring me to stick with the plan.

@SCAPP3LL3, I skimmed over the story a bit. I could tell from her facial expression that she was just daring someone to do that, so she could draw it out and savour every moment more fully. She really WAS the type of person who makes going to the gym a not-so-great experience if you cross paths with her. I tried waiting for a bit, but I just did not have the time for it. Now, if I DID have the time, the story might have ended differently. (Sometimes I'm evil like that, too.)

I would have stood next to the machine and stared at her intensely, tapping my foot until she moved. But I'm evil like that ;)
