Country Road, Take Me Home
Saturday, March 23, 2013
Well, today was kind of funny for exercise.
The weather is beautiful, nice and sunny, though there is still lots of snow around. I decided it would be good to get some fresh air instead of spending an early morning at the gym again. DH agreed and we got ready to go out hiking.
There is a set of trails not far from us, a 10-minute drive at most. The paths are well travelled. We've used them before for hiking and snowshoeing and never had any problems.
About an hour into our hike this morning, we realized we had made our way to an unfamiliar parking lot at a different entrance to the trails. Checking the map on our Walk Tracking app, we realized we had sort of lost our way, and we were about two miles from where we had parked the car.
We decided to walk back along the roads, which allowed us to keep track of where we were, even though it was a very long journey on hard flat tarmac, without the interesting views and hilly terrain of the trails we had just travelled.
The end result was a four mile hike and some very sore legs for DH and me today. Kinda fun, except for the long bit in the middle. The unfamiliar country roads made the walk seem endless, but we finally reached the car after about forty minutes of slogging along.
When we were done I felt I deserved my tall nonfat chai latte at Starbucks. (Not to mention the marshmallow dream bar I had with it.) The long hike may not have been planned, but the treats were all recorded and accounted for.
It's just past noon and it's already been a good day! Hope your weekend is treating you well. Keep Sparking!
